Roger E Nixon, Military & Historical Searches

Historical research whether genealogical, military, naval, occupational or in some other form makes demands upon the researcher before a client. The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to clearly define these demands for the better operation and maintenance of the profession of historical research and record searching.

I/we, as The Researchers will always: -

Uphold the basic obligations as given in the Terms & Conditions hereto

Additionally, We will: -

  • Provide clients with a clear and straightforward appraisal of intended research or investigation.
  • Avoid compromising impartiality by declaring any interest of a personal or financial nature.
  • Undertake investigative work for a client in a precise and professional manner.
  • Submit work in strict accordance with any quotation as given and agreed prior to commencement of work.
  • Endeavour to examine and cite original sources and make clear which sources are primary and secondary.
  • Maintain and retain a clear written record of work and avoid any duplication of effort or tasks.
  • Never conceal or withhold information or facts which may be relevant to research.
  • Provide clear and unambiguous reports of findings with supporting documentation if required.
  • Never knowingly report or publish any information known to be false or unproven.
  • Not publish research findings paid for by a client without prior written agreement.
  • Not quote questionable or dubious sources unless the same are identified or explained as such.
  • Provide optional alternative avenues of research and study wherever appropriate.

Moreover, We will:-

  • Be honest, discreet and professional in dealings with clients, repositories, museums and the public.
  • Always indicate source references and acknowledge intellectual property and copyright interests of others.
  • Not claim another's work as our own.
  • Not divulge a client's personal, family, business or confidential details obtained in the course of work to other than the client.
  • Always uphold the integrity and standing of historical research and record searching as professions.
