Society of Genealogists Library at Charterhouse Buildings, London

For people trying to discover their family genealogy, The National Archives UK (PRO) alongside other London repositories offer extensive diversity in genealogical and historical records. TNA alone has several hundred thousand military and naval records of genealogical significance. This includes indexed and unindexed records of births, marriages and deaths of army people at home and abroad, from 1761 and 1796 respectively.

There are a number of very specific areas that can be consulted sometimes with quite amazing results. Here are a few examples of the records available:

  • Army (service records from 1760)
  • Navy (various from 1688)
  • Marines (from 1664)
